FAQ

Can I cancel an application after I have asked you to handle it?

Regarding applications, you may cancel your request as long as we have not yet submitted it to Immigration. However, please understand that fees for any work already carried out will still be charged.

If you need to change the details of your application after submitting it to Immigration, please consult us. We will discuss whether it is appropriate to amend or withdraw the application, and take any other necessary steps. We will proceed based on your understanding and agreement.

Processing times vary depending on the case and application type, as well as how busy the Immigration Bureau is at the time. However, please use the following as a general guideline:
●Extension of period of stay: approx. 3 weeks to 2.5 months
●Change of residence status: approx. 2 to 3 months
●Certificate of Eligibility (CoE): approx. 2 to 8 months
●Business Manager status: approx. 10 months to 1 year and 6 months (as of fiscal year 2025)
●Permanent residence application: approx. 1 to 2 years
●Naturalization application: approx. 1 year
These timescales may vary depending on the Legal Affairs Bureau where you submit your application.

We will first ask whether you prefer to submit your application online or in person at the Immigration Bureau, and then proceed in the way that best fits your wishes and circumstances. For clients living outside the Tokyo immigration jurisdiction, we generally file applications online; however, if you prefer, we can also arrange a meeting and decide together on the most appropriate way to proceed.

As a general rule, applications for an extension of period of stay can be submitted from three months before the expiry date of your current status. If you need to apply earlier than three months in advance, it may be possible after consulting with the Immigration Bureau and, if they agree to accept the application, explaining the special circumstances that require early submission.

In the unfortunate event that your application is not approved, we will confirm your wishes and schedule and, where possible, arrange to visit the Immigration Bureau with you. If you are unable to attend, our immigration specialist can go on your behalf to receive an explanation of the reasons for refusal. We will listen carefully to the officer’s explanation, ask any necessary questions to clarify the reasons for the rejection, and provide you with practical advice to help with your next application.
